What is Ham Radio

Amateur Radio, or Ham Radio, is a fun and exciting hobby including a vast array of activities:

•        Talking around the world without wires.
•        Talking locally through repeaters.
•        Emergency communications.
•        Public service communications.
•        Contests and awards.
•        Legacy communication modes like Morse code and
         Radioteletype  (RTTY).
•        New communication modes like digital packet, Automatic
Position Reporting System (APRS), and spread spectrum.
•        Amateur radio satellites in space.
•        Foxhunting (using “radio direction finding” techniques to find a
          hidden  transmitter).
•        Moonbounce (talking by bouncing radio waves off the moon).
•        And much, much more..

You can hear the ISS (International Space Station):

The amateur radio station on the ISS can be received using very simple equipment.

Getting Licensed:

This is the Only Hobby where people have to appear for an examination conducted by the Ministry of Communication and IT. Those clearing the exam are issued the license to operate high power long and short range wireless equipment.
Licensing requirements are different in every country with different rules, privileges, and classes of license.

Listen to the natural broadcast of Jupiter

This website contains the Technical details of the antenna and receiver used for receiving natural radio emissions from Jupiter at 20.1MHz. The antenna and receiver discussed in this site is based on the design given by NASA Radio Jove Program.

Natural radio emissions from Jupiter or from Sun are detected by using a dual dipole array as an antenna and with a sensitive receiver. The RF voltage developed at the antenna terminals is amplified with the RF amplifier and converted in to audio frequencies using a mixer. The audio signal thus generated is recorded on PC through a sound card in ‘wav’ format. Also a strip-chart recorder software is available to generate the strip-chart of data coming through sound card.

JHELIOVIEWER - EXPLORE THE SUN

JHELIOVIEWER - EXPLORE THE SUN #

JHelioviewer is visualization software for solar image data based on the JPEG 2000 compression standard. JPEG 2000 offers many useful new features and has the potential to revolutionize the way high-resolution image data are disseminated and analyzed. The JPEG 2000 Interactive Protocol (JPIP) enables serving data in a highly compressed, quality-progressive, region-of-interest-based stream. These features minimize the data volume transmitted while maximizing its usability. This is especially relevant for solar physics since NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory has started providing more than a terabyte of image data per day.
